OBDUCAT, leading manufacturer of lithography solutions based on nanoimprint lithography (NIL), has been invited to participate in a transnational project named MOSAICS. The project has been initiated by the European collaboration organization eurostarsTM. The project is focused on the development and commercialization of Dye-sensitized Solar Cell’s (DSSC) with a special emphasis on smart windows and Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) applications.

DSSC’s has gained an interest as a solution to BIPV application due to its unique features of a superior performance under low light condition, transparency, conformability and easy integration into the buildings. A reliable and high-quality large size DSSC panel is a prerequisite to advance the DSSC technology into the real BIPV market.

Large-size DSSC panels will also greatly reduce the efficiency loss originating from the interconnection between many small solar cell panels.

The project aims to develop DSSC panels with a size of 914 mm x 580 mm with 7% efficiency and long-term stability. The project will also develop essential chemicals including high-efficiency dyes, stability-secured gel-type electrolytes, various n-type oxide pastes together with anti-reflective nanostructures, which will significantly boost the cost reduction and long-term reliability of DSSC panels.

The project consortium consists of five SMEs, one research institute and one university with complementary expertise and long experience in related technologies;

  • Orion Co. Ltd., South Korea

  • Obducat Technologies AB, Sweden

  • Korea Institute of Energy Research, South Korea

  • Chung-Ang University, South Korea

  • Gaia Solar, Denmark

  • GPYO Engineering & Consultancy, Spain

  • AP Nanoteknoloji Ltd., Turkey

Obducat Technologies AB will focus on fabrication of large-area anti-reflection nanostructure with a self-cleaning function by using NIL technology.

The other members of the consortium will perform the following missions;

  • development of the electrolyte in DSSCs and organic dyes to improve the efficiency of DSSCs

  • development of large-size DSSC panel

  • installation and field test of large-area DSSC panel

The project will start in May 2015 and is scheduled to run over 3 years with a total budget of 2.6 MEUR.
